Infant mortality rate in this region  is 13 times of that in Canada (63.2 versus 4.88 per 1000 live births). 30% of children are underweight, and suffer from stunted growth.

The closest doctor is 2 hours away by boat.  That doctor is provided by municipality and the visits are free,  but he is not a very good doctor so people don’t bother to go.  There is a paid doctor in St. Vincente (3 hours by the daily bus), but this one villagers cannot afford.

Most families simply accept their fate: children die of common ailments like ear infection, fever or diarrhea.

If you love children, are willing to experience an adventure instead of cushy life - we are looking for you.  You can chose between a short term commitment (2-4 weeks) and long term position (several months or longer).
